In the world of artistic creation we tend to do best when we’re thrown into the water at the deepest end of the pool. Theory can teach us useful things, but without practice and putting oneself out there it might as well be years spent in vain. The secret of human success is not hidden in our individual problem-solving capacities. It lies in our ability to make use of our collective knowledge – in finding out what really works and putting it to use, without having to walk down thousands of paths until stumbling upon the right one that leads to achieving our goals. If you know what you want to accomplish, it can be a number of carefully carved and time-checked points of advice that put you on the right path right away, without having to miss out on real results.

In 1998, the National Association of Film Schools recognized Dov as “America’s #1 Film Instructor”. For 30 years Mr. Simens has worked diligently to bring affordable film education to America and is credited with launching 1,000s of Film Careers, with Oscars® & Emmys®, for Screenwriters, Directors, Filmmakers, Producers and Actors in the Theatrical, Television and Cable Industries.
After optioning numerous books, writing scripts and pitching high-concept projects (’80-83), and he graduated from the school-of-hard-knocks: His true film experience commenced as a Reader and Development Executive (’83-85) by writing coverage on over 3,000 screenplays and segueing into film production (’85-’88) as a Production Manager/Line Producer for Roger Corman, who made over 700 profitable, feature films, while teaching at USC, UCLA & NYU.
In 1991 Mr. Simens committed 100% to film education and founded the Hollywood Film Institute, an alternative to expensive film education, with it’s patented “2-DAY FILM SCHOOL™” (presented & franchised in over 35 nations), and presented over 1,200 master weekend intensives, for adults & professionals, on Filmmaking, Directing, Screenwriting, Producing, Financing & Distributing. In 2010 Mr. Simens sold his campus to J. J. Abrams.
ARE QUENTIN AND WILL COMING TO RIGA?
Not for this time, unfortunately. Quentin Tarantino, Will Smith and other Dov Simens’ “2 DAY FILM SCHOOL” graduates unfortunately won’t be able to attend, but we will hear a lot about them and their experience during the course.
WHY TARANTINO/RITCHIE & OTHERS ARE ON THE WEBSITE?
Quentin Tarantino, Guy Ritchie, Christopher Nolan, Will Smith and George Clooney among a lot of others are the graduates of Dov Simens’ “2–DAY FILM SCHOOL”. For many of them this film school was a kick-off for careers. They are included in this website to celebrate their achievements. You could be next!
WHAT WILL DOV TEACH ME?
The “2–DAY FILM SCHOOL”, brought to film professionals across the world by Mr. Simens focuses on questions of creating, financing and delivering both large-scale projects and working within a small-budget (20K – 200K) frame, thus stressing the importance of making a feature film (rather than starting with short films) in order to be in the business!
The first day of the three-day course will focus on the most efficient steps towards making a feature film, while the second day will offer the best strategies of selling it. The broad range of subjects covered works directly towards the specifics of working within a small market, such as the Baltics, where the film professionals fare much better once they equip themselves with a broader understanding of all the roles involved in filmmaking film-selling.
WHY IT IS SO COOL?
This will be the first (and possibly – the only) time Dov will come over to the Baltic States to pass his knowledge to the local industry professionals, students, enthusiasts and interesents! It is a unique opportunity to be a part of this event.
WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE 3RD DAY?
We have taken a step further and decided to organize an extended version of this course – by creating an “after-brunch”, where successful producers and directors from the Baltic States will share their experiences and know-hows. It will be an opportunity to adapt the acquired knowledge to the local industry, as well as network, meet new people and join the discussion.
CAN I BUY SEPARATE ADMISSION OF 1 DAY?
Unfortunately not. This is a package of a 3-day course. Dov’s course is built in such a way that each day of the course is interlinked and compliments each other.
WHAT WOULD I GET FROM THIS CLASS?
You will have gained knowledge from a man with an experience of 30 years of teaching film industry tips and tricks around the globe. For most people it takes years and tons of financial resources, whereas here it comes in a package of 3 days at a reasonable price. You will have a thorough overview of the film industry in the USA and its applications to the Baltic market. You will meet many professionals and new, aspiring filmmakers from the Baltic States.
IS THE EVENT IN ENGLISH?
Dov will speak English, of course. But we are providing simultaneous interpretation to both Latvian and Russian at the event. If you will require such a translation — please buy a ticket with the specification of the translation language.
The third day event will be in English only.
